Carina is a second generation Filipinx and El Salvadoran queer and revolutionary full-spectrum doula. In an effort to reclaim the ancestral healing framework of the Filipino Babaylan Tradition, she intends to center the Babaylan Spirit of revolution, the belief in sacred wholeness, and the desire to serve aligned communities. Carina devotes herself to re-remembering the innate wisdom and powers of birthing people’s abilities to birth life into this earthly realm. In re-remembering this ancient wisdom, Carina rejects harmful patriarchal systems and resists colonial structures of all forms. Carina provides additional support by bridging birthwork and astrology through careful observation of one’s cosmic makeup to identify any aspects and/or analyze current transits in the sky as it relates to your placements. She provides insights into the energies of your chart to instill a sense of calm, understanding, and presence through your sacred journey. I am a postpartum doula, born and raised in San Diego, a lactation educator, and author of the book I’ll Remember You”-available on Etsy.com. I am a mother of seven children, and I am very passionate about providing new mothers and their families the physical and emotional support they deserve while adjusting to life with a new baby(or babies!). I love being able to play a role in making that transition easier.

I spent the first six years of my career working in early childhood education. First working in a daycare, then moving onto preschool, and later working as a nanny. My time in early childhood gave me a great appreciation of mothers, children, and families. I found it incredibly rewarding to be welcomed into someone’s home and life to care for their most precious possession. As I worked in early childhood I simultaneously took certifications in my other passion, fitness. I began to learn about anatomy and how different perinatal bodies are to women who have not given birth. One of my trainings stated that 80% of women will be pregnant (and eventually postpartum) at some point in their lives. This special consideration stuck with me. It wasn’t until my husband and I decided to try for children that I fully understood the wonder of fertility, pregnancy, and birth. I became obsessed with devouring all the information I could on these topics and finally stumbled upon Ina May’s guide to childbirth. This book completely changed how I viewed birth and melted my fears of childbirth away. However, by the time I became pregnant navigating the often confusing OB and even midwifery world left me feeling dizzy. The entire process left me feeling disempowered and I knew I couldn’t go into giving birth from this space. This pushed me to train to be a birth doula to ensure I would have a positive pregnancy and birth experience. The training helped me to understand physiological birth, navigating the medical world, and what I wanted even in the event of an unplanned obstacle. I finally felt confident I could handle whatever labor could throw at me. My passion for birth was born out of necessity and I plan to use that same level of devotion to help other women. I truly believe my unique skill set and experiences have lead me to the field of birth work. I created Fit to Birth to combine all my knowledge and passions. I hope to provide resources, education, and support to pregnant women in Sacramento and beyond.
