I knew I wanted to become a lactation consultant after repeatedly watching parents in tears and feeling defeated as they struggled with feeding their infants regardless of their age, education level, or race. I pursued that education and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2005. I breastfed my four children, but not without my own hiccups! Babies have always been my passion! Like Tisha said, I always knew my career would be working with babies. I applied to nursing school knowing I was going to work in OB and that's exactly what I did. After having my first child in 2014 I realized the need for more lactation consultants. I struggled a lot with him and had no one to turn to for answers, so I began doing my own research. I was determined to make this work. And that is how my lactation career started! I started my lactation training not even knowing if I would be able to get a job doing what I had become so passionate about.
