It hit me hard that families need more support during such a significant journey, especially when the medical system sometimes falls short. ​ Have you ever heard of the Greek word "Doula"? It means "a woman who serves," and man, does that resonate with me! As I delved deeper into doula work and connected with fellow women sharing their stories, my passion for serving families only grew stronger. I realized the power in empowering families to take charge of their birthing experiences and health choices. ​ Now, let's talk about my other passion – photography. There's something magical about capturing those perfect moments during birth that families will treasure forever. I believe in freezing those precious memories, so they're not just fleeting moments but lasting legacies. Combining doula support and photography is a magical mix that not only offers support to families in the moment, but also gives them something unique and special that they can look back on forever. ​ And then there are my childbirth classes. Hello there! My name is Jess Harrell and I am an RN, IBCLC in the northwest Georgia region. As an IBCLC I am experienced with both in-person, virtual, and telephone lactation consultations. A little about myself! My journey in healthcare started in the ER as a patient care tech, and I became an RN in 2010. Shortly after obtaining my RN I stepped into the world of Women's Health. I have practiced in multiple arenas of Women's Health such as: mother/baby, newborn admission and nursery, labor and delivery, OB-GYN office, and lactation consultation. My journey with breastfeeding was brought on when I faced my own personal struggles with breastfeeding my first baby. I struggled with postpartum depression during that time and I did not feel that I had enough support from personal relationships nor from clinical providers. Because of this experience I became very passionate about providing support to other breastfeeding families. I never another struggling family to feel that they do not have the support and resources to reach their breastfeeding goals! I am married and we have 2 children and 3 pups! I enjoy nature, crochet, and reading. I love working with breastfeeding families and being a source of support and camaraderie with my families. I look forward to working with you!

I was trained in 2018 and have been practicing ever since! My doula career began in San Antonio and is now continuing in middle Tennessee, where I live with my husband and 3 beautiful children. I am a community birth worker based in the Greater Chattanooga, TN area. I have been providing professional, community-based perinatal, postpartum, and lactation education and support since 2014. I have trained and/or been educated in multiple, complementary modalities to enhance and support the work I provide in the birthing communities that I am blessed to be apart of. Birthwork is a second career for me as I previously was a cosmetologist for 25 years prior to retiring in 2011. I am also a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces having honorably served 8 years in the U.S. Navy. I enjoy research on topics centered around pregnancy and birth and it's complexities. I think my experience is a little bit unique in the fact that I attended around 60 home births before I ever helped parents out in a hospital setting. I have since become quite familiar with the hospitals in Chattanooga and Dalton, and have worked with many providers in these areas. I have a compiled list of other providers also. For example, chiropractors, pelvic floor therapist, massage therapist and more. It is my goal to provide you with education surrounding parenthood, help you and your family navigate through unfamiliar territory, and hopefully help you feel confident in your decisions.
