I have a BA in pre-medicine and I am currently working towards a master's degree in reproductive science and medicine, which I expect to complete in June 2025. I am planning to apply for physician's assistant programs next, with the goal of working as an OB/Gyn provider. Being a doula allows me to connect with and support the women in my community while I am in school to become a medical provider. Because of my background in science and medicine, my practice as a doula is research-based. I provide clients with personalized, accurate information to help facilitate conversations with their doctors so they can make the best decisions for their birth plan. I support hospital-birth clients, and I aim to eliminate the stigma surrounding medicated births.

Founded in 2024 by Mikala, Jenna, Jennifer, and Jaime, we combine our unique experiences and expertise to provide compassionate, personalized care. By pooling our skills, we offer holistic care that addresses the physical, emotional, and informational needs of the families we serve in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. My journey into birth work began in 2015 when I was supported during my son's birth by a doula. Inspired, I pursued certification and have since worked with diverse families in various settings across four states. As a mom of two earth side kids, one angel baby, and a bonus daughter, I have personal experience with breastfeeding, cloth diapering, babywearing, and baby-led weaning. My son was born in a hospital with a failed epidural, and my daughter had a dramatic, unassisted home birth. Passionate about non-traditional families, bereavement and trauma healing, I support single parents, LGBTQIA+, many different families with unique spiritual beliefs, families through pregnancy losses, terminal diagnoses, stillbirths, and chosen losses. An adoptee myself, I also support adoption processes. Outside of Stateline Birth Keepers, I advocate for local foster youth, coach youth sports, and engage in the public educational system. I enjoy outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and paddle boarding, and I also enjoy crafting and thrifting during colder weather. It is my joy to support families that are giving birth in home, birth center and hospital settings. I have five years of experience working in obstetrics and gynecology, which facilitated my love for all things pregnancy related. While I thoroughly enjoyed supporting my patients in a clinical setting during their prenatal and postpartum phases, I truly wanted to be more involved in supporting women throughout the birthing process. My personal breastfeeding journey started with the home birth of my first son in 2003. Like many mothers I struggled with breastfeeding. I found La Leche League (LLL), what a blessing in disguise! With the help I was given, I knew this was the path for me to help other mothers. I became a peer to peer breastfeeding counselor within the LLL organization. In 2005 my second son was born via an emergency cesarean delivery,14 weeks early! I learned so much about lactation & breastfeeding a premature baby. In 2008, this evolved into working in the hospital where he was born as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I studied and learned more about human lactation and I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2009. I worked in a hospital setting for 15 years. ​ My experience with two very different breastfeeding situations has fueled my passion to help all parents meet their specific lactation and breastfeeding goals. I graduated from Union Institute & University in 2015 with my Bachelors of Science in Maternal Child Health with an emphasis in Human Lactation.

Hi! I'm Kristen. I am a graduate of Chamberlain University, where I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. My nursing degree has taken me down a path I was destined to be on. I always knew I wanted to work with mothers and babies, and after graduation, I began working as a private nurse for postpartum families. I would be their support system during their personal postpartum journey while educating their entire family on how to navigate the new territory of bringing their baby (or babies!) home. It was during this time I learned how motherhood is such a beautiful experience, yet also one of the most difficult without the proper support system. I began to specialize in infant sleep and obtained my Pediatric Sleep Consultant certification through the Family Sleep Institute. I have worked with countless families in Chicago, as well as virtually, to help them find the rest their whole family needs in a way that works for them. I had a baby of my own last year, and being a mother myself has brought even more empathy and compassion into my work.
