About me

hi! i’m tamara niedermann, owner and creator of the kindred feminine. i’m a witness and student of birth and birthing people and it’s an honor to be invited into your birth story. i’ve always known i’m at my best when i’m in support of the people around me. that desire for deep relationship is what has guided my journey to birth work, herbalism, and supporting the birthing and bleeding people in my community. when my younger sister and her husband started their parenting journey, she started sharing the things she was learning about pregnancy and labor. as i watched her pregnancy unfold i learned there was another way. it took the books and documentaries i found, and new perspectives i was learning to show me that doulas, and midwives, and placentas, and breastfeeding, and herbal baths are all a beautiful and sacred part of pregnancy and birth. since then, a deep passion has grown from within me to teach others this new way to know our bodies, experience our menstrual cycles, and conceive and birth our babies. the kindred feminine serves all birthing and bleeding people through education; teaching bodily literacy, contraception, or conception through the fertility awareness method, and pregnancy and childbirth education; walking alongside people in their conception journeys, and in their pregnancies and their births; and creating medicine through processing placentas and herbal offerings. i'm a bisexual cis woman of color who uses the pronouns she, hers, and her. i’m a newlywed in my thirties. i'm the daughter of an immigrant single mother. i acknowledge that Black, Indigenous, People of color (BIPOC) have much worse reproductive outcomes than their white counterparts. i'm an advocate for all birthing people no matter their race, sexuality, gender, or size. i'm a birth keeper, and an herbalist. i make placenta and herbal medicine, and hold space for those who i have the privilege of serving. grace and peace and many blessings on you.

Service introduction

the kindred feminine | sliding scale as a birth keeper and owner of the kindred feminine, i believe that everyone should have access to the support they want and need during their pregnancies and birth. i recognize the chaos that our current economic system has created, and envision another model in which every birthing person is supported and empowered and truly are the owners of their births. however, while we work toward a new model in which the rights of birthing people are paramount, accountable institutions are created, and equitable birth support is accessible for everyone, i realize we are not there yet. this sliding scale is one way of acknowledging differences in wealth, income, costs, and privilege and actively addresses the economic disparities in our communities and society. this sliding scale is a way to say no to the way things are and yes to the way they can be while providing support for all. why a sliding scale? before discussing the actual investment for services, i’d like to take this space to let you know what sliding scale means to me. my personal moral and ethical compass includes challenging classist, capitalistic, colonialist structures that are deeply ingrained in our current society and in the current birthing models. a sliding scale rate of payment for services is one small way to take into account for the layered opportunities and oppressions we all encounter. this is also geared toward economic justice on a personal and local level. please take into account the factors listed; i will not quiz you or ask you to prove anything, i trust you to have authority of your own complicated needs. the scale is intended to be a map, inviting each of us to take inventory of our financial resources and look deeper at our levels of privilege. it is a way to challenge our capitalist society we live in and work towards economic justice on a local level. while i ask you to take these factors into consideration, please don’t stress about it. pay what feels right. i will not ask questions or quiz you on your payment choices! scale range | $1500-$2500 as a witness and student of birth and birthing people, i am honored to offer the following to the families who invite me into their stories. please keep these offerings in mind while you mindfully consider your budget. complementary interview to get to know each other and answer any questions. unlimited phone, text, and email support starting at contract signing. at least three prenatal meetings: one prenatal to discuss and write out your birth decisions, and discuss informed consent and refusal. one prenatal childbirth education class. one prenatal to practice relaxation techniques, and address any postpartum concerns. continuous support during labor once active labor starts. . the rebozo used throughout your pregnancy and birth. complementary placenta processing. one postpartum visit to consider and discuss your birth. eight hours of postpartum doula support to be scheduled during the first six weeks. lactation support as needed. unlimited phone, text, and email support after birth. consider paying less on the scale if you: are a person who experiences racism directed at you, or via systemic oppression are a black, brown, indigenous, or otherwise non-white person are transgender and experience trans related discrimination and/or violence regularly are gay/queer and experience related discrimination and/or violence regularly are a pregnant teenager struggling to find support have medical expenses not covered by insurance have been denied work are eligible for public assistance have immigration-related expenses are an unpaid community organizer are a returning citizen who has been denied work due to incarceration history are supporting children or have other dependents consider paying more on the scale if you: own the home you live in have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money travel recreationally have access to family money and resources in times of need work part time by choice have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education, gender privilege, racial privilege, class background, etc. even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, i ask you to recognize this as a choice.

Tamara is such a warm comforting presence at a birth and I have experienced the healing power of her herbal preparations on many occasions. She is an amazing listener and has so much wisdom.
