About me

I love helping women understand and awaken to their own power in birth. Babies profoundly benefit from their mothers feeling a sense of empowerment and freedom throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum. During this meaningful and normal physiological process, there is a hormonal orchestra that helps both mom and baby to dance and shift their way into each other's arms. My goal is to protect this space, offering a balance of privacy vs suggestions and guidance. Part of my expertise lies in recognizing and distinguishing normal from abnormal during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. It is an honor and privilege to walk beside families in their childbearing seasons and adjust care to fit individual needs.

Review for Shelly As I approached the end of my pregnancy, I started to reconsider the free birth I had been planning and began to explore my options. I came across Shelly through Facebook, and we talked at length about what I had envisioned for this birth. Shelly asked very concise questions in order to acquaint herself with my expectations and to deliver a reasonable response to those expectations. She was thorough and honest. Ultimately we both decided that she would attend my birth and provide me with the hands off approach that I desired in my birth. As my due date came and passed, Shelly was speaking with me daily. She provided me with further reassurance that things were going smoothly. She not only answered my questions, but conferred with other midwives in the community so that she could be certain she was giving me all of the information she had available. Shelly and Staci arrived right on time for my birth, responding immediately to my husbands call. They entered my home peacefully and with the utmost reverence for the birthing space I had created. Their presence was non intrusive, and they waited patiently until my husband and I needed them in the room. Shelly allowed me to birth the way I intuitively desired, and asked to step in when she realized my baby girl wasn’t descending any further. She used her judgment in adjusting my position and assisting me with catching my baby. She provided all the necessary care after delivery, paid great attention to details in checking over my placenta and baby, and allowed my husband and I to get comfortable. Shelly followed up promptly and further provided comfort and care to myself and my newborn. She kindly went over the birth with me and we shared some of our passions and thoughts regarding the experience. Shelly was fantastic, adaptable, and humble. She is a great person, and a great midwife. I highly recommend her to anyone wanting to get in touch with a midwife, and I truly hope she is able to leave her permanent mark in the birthing community.

To start, I had an extremely traumatic first home birth where no one was truly at blame, sometimes things go haywire in birth. But at my first birth, Shelly was there as an apprentice and the entire birth team stepped in and helped us get the transport we needed during that time. My daughter needed resuscitation and cpr and as horrible as that was, you hire a birth team to help in those times that are not wished for, and I was thankful I hired a team that helped. That situation led me to reach out to her again. Going into my second pregnancy, I was really unsure about doing a home birth because I dealt with a lot of trauma and fear that my body would fail me again. I reached out to Shelly and she spent probably 2 hours on the phone with me encouraging me and helping me believe in myself. She never pushed home birth but encouraged me to trust my intuition and that she would be there as my midwife if I chose to. We ended up choosing a hospital birth and she still checked in on me throughout my entire pregnancy and even sent me books to my house to help me with managing some of my symptoms i was experiencing. I remember crying a lot after OB appointments and then Shelly would talk to me on the phone (knowing I was not a client), and made me feel way better and encouraged to push on. At 35 weeks we felt that our care at the OB was not lining up with our needs and felt pulled to go back to home birth. Although I felt bad for asking last minute to switch, Shelly did allow that because we were in contact my entire pregnancy. This goes to show it is never too late to change providers! Trust your gut! Up till I gave birth, Shelly created a birth protocol to make us feel safer and have a very detailed plan if anything went wrong again. She went ABOVE and beyond to give us amazing care and make sure that it was the care we desired that fit our personal needs. She drove to us a lot at the end of our pregnancy and pp which I highly appreciated. I went into labor at 39+5 and she made it just in time. She was hands off unless requested but also I did request a lot 😆. She was very professional and took high priority to make sure baby and mama were safe, and I am pleased to say that my second birth was the most redemptive experience ever! I don’t think I would have believed in myself or in my body without Shelly carrying me through this pregnancy. If you are looking for a midwife to LISTEN and care about YOUR birth wishes and plan and not to push their own agenda, this is the lady for you! I cannot recommend her enough and I am eternally eternally grateful for this birth!!! 💕 I could go on and on about how grateful I am for Shelly.

Shelly cared for me during my pregnancy and birth. She offered her knowledge, support, and love in the times I needed it most. If there was a specific question I had that she wasn’t absolutely sure about, she took time to research and learn everything she could about it. I felt heard, seen, and cared for every time we interacted. She was a safe person during my labor and birth and having her with us was a blessing! This line of work is truly her calling and you can tell she has her entire heart in it. We’ve stayed in contact since my birth, and I’m so thankful to have had her part of my team. I will always recommend Shelly, she’s more than a midwife, she’s a friend.

Shelly attended the birth of my 4th baby and I could not have had a better experience. She was thorough and amazing at prenatal appointments but my birth with her was everything! Shelly was such a calm and confident presence for me. She was as hands on or off as I needed her to be. She was very encouraging and made me feel so safe and at peace. I cannot recommend her enough and I absolutely would use her again!
