My name is Nikki Avila and I have been providing support for pregnant mamas and surrogacy carriers or IP’s for a few years. I am passionate about providing support, education and advocacy to those on their journey through motherhood or surrogacy. In birth work there is a continual growth and sharpening of how we can be a better support to our Mama’s that we care for, in 2018, I felt called to increase my love for birth work by enrolling in doula training with a few doula organizations. I studied in both Birth and Postpartum work, I searched for a doula training that was well rounded in diversity and inclusion and continual support even after certification. As a doula, I felt as I lacked something in what I was offering and went back to one of my first births that I attended and remembered how this Mama enjoyed her birthing time and it was such a healing and rewarding experience, not just for the Mama, but us, her birth team. She was calm, and so in tune with her body, her focus was not on pain, but in a more comfortable birth, I remember asking her about the program she did and she said it was Hypnobabies, I did some research and found out that they had a training coming up and I applied to their Childbirth Instructor program and after 40 hours of in person training I became certified as a Hypnobabies Childbirth Instructor and Hypno-Doula in 2021. This program has shifted the way I support others through their journey, it has helped me change the way I view birth, and the power of language, I’d love to share with you how birth can be much more enjoyable.
