About Nicole

Hello! My name is Nicole. I’m a Birth Doula and I also offer overnight postpartum and newborn care to new and expectant families throughout South Jersey, Philly, and surrounding areas. I believe it is a gift to be able to make a difference in the way a family feels supported and cared for throughout their journey. It’s the reason I became a Doula. I personally know what it feels like to be supported vs not. I feel extremely fortunate and honored to have been trusted and invited into many birth spaces over the years. It is a mission that I continue to take very seriously. I specialize in helping people have redemptive births after previous birth trauma, VBAC, advocacy, and physiologic birth. I aim to help people find their voice and birth from a place of power, strength and confidence!

Birth & Postpartum Doula services

Unlimited email, phone (text/call) support throughout pregnancy and through the postpartum transition. Prenatal birth preparation visits. Birth plan/preference assistance. Continuous, hands-on (or off!) physical and emotional support during labor and birth. A calm, reassuring presence for you AND your partner. Non-pharmacological comfort techniques such as use of the Rebozo, visualization, focal points, acupressure, counter-pressure, relaxation and light touch massage. Co-creation of your desired birth space. Guidance through positioning/pelvic biomechanics. Evidence based information. Back-up doula network. TOLAC/VBAC sensitive preparation, information and support. Assistance with first feeding, if desired. In-home postpartum family transition visit within the first few weeks after birth. Overnight postpartum & newborn care + sleep shaping

Frequently asked questions

Do you attend Homebirth?

Yes. We attend you, wherever you choose to birth. Home birth is a great idea for those wishing to have a supported and unhindered birth experience within a familiar and safe setting. We also give discounts for those choosing to birth at home.

Do you take insurance?

Doulas are not in network with insurance companies, as we are not medical health care providers. However, Northern Star Doula does accept HSA & FSA. Your insurance company may also provide reimbursement for doula services and childbirth education so please check with them and we will provide all of the information you need to turn in for your full or partial reimbursement.

Do you provide postpartum doula support?

Yes. We are available for daytime postpartum support as well as overnight postpartum and newborn care in your home.

Do you support VBAC?

Absolutely. We are big supporters of informed choice and believe that everyone deserves to be supported in their choices. Whether in the hospital or home, whether you have had one prior cesarean or three... Northern Star Doula will provide support for your choices.

Can you help me have an unmedicated/natural birth?

Yes! Doulas are experts on normal birth and can work with you throughout your pregnancy, to help you prepare for whatever type of birth you desire. We will then support you by joining you, providing comfort measures, assisting with coping techniques and staying by your side until your little one is born.

Do you support those planning to get an epidural?

Of course. We are there to support you in your goals, and are of that mind that “your birth plan is our birth plan."

Do you advocate?

Yes. There are several different ways that we are able to advocate for you, and amplify your voice when you are needing that type of support. Some doulas do not advocate, and they will tell you flat out. Some will advocate to an extent but are not willing to speak out loud (in a professional manner) to you, in front of your providers. We do. And we do it well. (Hint: there’s a strategy and skill involved.)
