we are an interracial couple with deep Christian faith. this is our first baby and I am an older mama at 38 y/o. having someone who is deeply experienced as well as a Christian is important to us and if they were a black woman that would be very meaningful. we value the holistic, low/no-toxic lifestyle and would like to have minimal medical interventions, though we know with my advanced age we may need to deliver in a hospital. with that, we would like to have someone that will help us prepare for birth, be an educator and advocate, as well as be present at the birth, so we can focus on one another and be as present as possible to the experience. We are also looking for someone who have help us transition for a few weeks after birth into postpartum (that can be different from the midwife but same preferences apply). This may include overnights to help with sleep or postpartum care for mama, as well as meal planning and any lactation support. this is all new to us, so we want to create a team that can help support us through the process and budget.

Looking strictly for emotional support and help navigating patient rights in the hospital. I have a thorough birth plan but suspect the hospital will ignore it. My spouse will be supporting me during labor but another person there to fend off unnecessary medical interventions performed without consent is what I am looking for. I plan to give birth at Kaiser in Harbor City. My HMO Kaiser insurance covers a doula, but just for the roles I outlined above, so this is all we have the budget for unfortunately. My birth preference is for a natural birth, using movement, the shower, breath work, a comb, massage, and birthing ball for pain. I have been practicing perineal massage and hypnobirthing meditation techniques.

We are looking for a birthing doula to help us ensure an easy and optimized labor and delivery as well as with postpartum care while at home.
