My journey into midwifery started with the birth of my first child Oliana who was born by cesarean after planning a homebirth. That birth left me excited to be a mother but also confused about healing and breastfeeding. I had a lot of support in the postpartum including from our local ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) chapter. Community was important in healing and building me up as a mother during my early parenting years and community is what drives me today. In 2009 I attended Birthing From Within training in Austin learning the art of mentoring new parents through the childbearing year. My youngest child Silas was born at home in 2011, I stepped back from birth work during my pregnancy and the years after he was born. I found I needed a lot of quiet contemplation during this time and he needed a lot of time with me. In 2014 I attended toLabor doula and activist training and started a midwifery apprenticeship with CHOICE. In 2018 I became a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) specialized in out of hospital birth. I live in Columbus with my two children. We have a thriving backyard garden and are into composting and sustainable growing practices. I’m an avid reader and researcher. I try to keep up with current research around the pregnancy year and take multiple trainings a year to broaden my knowledge base. I support clients seeking homebirth and monitrice care in the Columbus, Ohio metro area and offer online coaching sessions to people who live outside of my radius of roughly an hour. I have a special interest in families planning a VBAC and HBAC (Vaginal/Home Birth After Cesarean). I am an Army veteran serving 4 years on active duty in Germany and 3 years in the reserves in Columbus. I have an undergraduate degree from Ohio State in Political Science and Women’s Studies (now Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies).

I love the autonomy and intimacy that a small practice brings for me and for my clients. I typically only take on 2 clients per month.

I grew up as the fifth child in a family of fourteen, having always been around babies and loving them. In 2010 I caught my niece at my sister’s home birth in Virginia, which led me down the path of becoming a midwife. I have a bachelor’s degree in midwifery from the Midwives College of Utah and moved to Cincinnati with a passion for improving Ohio’s maternity care. I’m the founder of the Buckeye Birth Coalition, a 501c4 grassroots organization to improve birthing outcomes in Ohio. Additionally, I formed the Safer Birth Foundation, a nonprofit that seeks to improve access to respectful maternity care by building midwifery centers. Before moving to Ohio, I lived in San Antonio Texas for two years and worked at Birth Center Stone Oak and with home birth midwives Robin Rabenschlag, Julie Hatfield, and Janet Dirmeyer. I earned my CPM certification in 2014, and have been practicing as a home birth midwife ever since. In 2017 I became certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Most recently I’ve been involved with legislative efforts to increase access to midwives and serve on the Kentucky Midwives Advisory Council, creating regulations for licensure of CPMs. In August 2020 I became the first Certified Professional Midwife to become licensed in the state of Kentucky and in January 2024 became licensed in Indiana. My practice style is influenced by my personal health journey of healing from digestive issues, PCOS, infertility, and hypothyroidism. My healing came through self-care and by facing my trauma. Recently I’ve become an Arvigo/Tul’ix therapist. I’m excited to offer and teach this traditional Mayan healing modality which focuses on self-care and abdominal massage. With over a decade of experience in midwifery, Meghan: Navigates complex scenarios such as surprise footling breech, cord prolapse, infant resuscitation, shoulder dystocia, and placental abruption. Understands how to each and implement self-care. She practices daily self-care massage and keeps weekly self-care dates. She sets healthy boundaries Knows the female body. She can have 20 orgasms in a row and is a vaginal weight lifter. She’s healed from vaginismus. As a woman living with hypermobility and scoliosis, realizes the impact hormones have on the female skeletal system. Sees the power of facing your problems and healing trauma. She’s healed from PCOS, hyperthyroidism, hyperprolactinemia, and galactorrhea. Believes gut healing is crucial. She’s healed her IBS, eczema, insulin resistance, and chronic yeast/gut dysbiosis by learning about and focusing on gut healing.

I never expected to be involved in birth work, yet five years later I am immersed in it loving every moment! My loving husband was the first person to educate me about my birth choices. His encouragement and the birth of my daughter are the reasons why I work in this field. While pregnant with my daughter I became very informed about my body and natural child birth/labor. I read countless books and watched many online videos. I did not realize my passion for birth work until I was asked to be a doula for the midwife who was serving me. She took me under her wing and started me on this journey and I have never looked back. Birth is one of the most sacred, compelling, beautiful, and healing events I have ever experienced. There is nothing compared to witnessing the birthing person bring forth a happy and healthy child. It is something I find incredibly joy-giving and satisfying. Labor In Love Midwifery seeks to serve birthing persons so that they can have a safe and healthy birth.
