About me

Hi, I'm Karen! I'm a Certified Professional Birth and Postpartum Doula in the Raleigh area of beautiful North Carolina. I'd be honored to have the opportunity to get to know you and hear about your birth goals and desires. I became a doula so that I could support and empower both expecting and postpartum families to have better birthing experiences, to have the experience they not only desire but ultimately deserve to have. I received my doula certifications through the Madriella doula network in 2022. I'd be honored to have the opportunity to get to know you and hear about your birth goals and desires.

Our Approach At Bump and Beyond Family Services, our approach to birthing and parenting is holistic and client centered, focusing on the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of each family we serve. Some of the services I provide is birth and postpartum doula support, and lactation support. Bump and Beyond Family Services offers virtual and in-person class. All classes are evidence based with your busy schedule and varying needs in mind. A of the education offerings we have is Virtual Childbirth Education class, Virtual Breastfeeding Class, Newborn Care and Infant Feeding Basics classes. I also offer various workshops.

What is the role of a postpartum doula?

Directly following birth, Doulas offer assistance with feeding (breast or bottle), bonding, and allowing the mother time to relax and enjoy her new baby. Commonly, after the mother returns home from the hospital with her baby, the doula will remain available for questions and concerns. She will also often visit the new baby and check in on the mother to make sure the patient is recovering well physically and mentally. Postpartum doulas offer specific services beyond the main doula services. They will meet with the new mother and help with newborn care, recovery from a vaginal or cesarean delivery, household chores, and other tasks that help the mother settle into their new life.

What is a doula?

Doulas are professional birth coaches who provide emotional, informational, physical, and mental support to women during the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods. Doulas do not provide medical care, but they are extraordinarily knowledgeable about childbirth. Their major role is to provide necessary support to the mother leading up to and during childbirth. There are also specific types of doulas, such as Antepartum Doulas, who assist women who are having a high-risk pregnancy or are on bed rest during pregnancy, and Postpartum Doulas, who assist women during the postpartum period.
