“There is a power that comes to women when they give birth. They don’t ask for it, it simply invades them. Accumulates like clouds on the horizon and passes through, carrying the child with it.” — Sheryl Feldman Hey, y’all! My name is Jade! I’m married to my best friend and together we have two of the sweetest little nuggets. I’m a homesteader, home baker, and stay at home mama when I’m not doing birth-y things. I am a ProDoula Certified Labor Doula. I’ve felt a passion and calling to birth work for the past 3.5 years following a long and difficult birth with my oldest child. I labored for 38 hours and endured a cascade of unwanted interventions, with the exception of a caesarean, in the process. I had a wonderful support system in my husband & family, but I left the hospital mourning the picture perfect birth I had been playing on a loop in my head for the few months leading up to my son’s birth. I couldn’t help but feel that things could have gone more smoothly if I had been more educated on the process of birth and all that it entails. It was through this that I also realized the need for consistent, educated, evidence based support in birth and postpartum. The thought of giving birth again without the support I did have, terrified me and the reality set in for me that so many expectant parents do not have access to even basic support that can be so crucial to the way new parents remember their birth experiences. From then on, I dove head first into research. Birth became almost an obsession. I read, listened to, and watched every piece of birth related material I could get my hands on for months. As time passed and I felt more educated, the more those regretful feelings I harbored regarding my child’s birth seemed to dissipate. I learned early on in my research about doulas & how beneficial they are to all aspects of birth and wondered why I had never heard of them before. Just then, the Creator yelled straight into my heart & I knew in that moment that birthwork, specifically doula work, was where I was meant to be. Just before my youngest’s first birthday, I had the opportunity to attend my first doula workshop and I immediately jumped headfirst into the doula life. I’ve supported several families thus far on my journey to help better birth experiences & it’s an absolute honor to be included in such a sacred and life changing moment, every single time. I’m beyond thrilled to be immersed in this work and helping families use their voices (even if they shake) to advocate for what’s right for them, birth the way they choose, and help smooth the transition into parenthood along the way.
