About me

I'm a certified postpartum doula and certified breastfeeding specialist living in Richmond, VA. I've been doing this work for over 11 years, and I feel so honored to walk the early months of life with a new baby or babies alongside the families I serve. It's a beautiful, vulnerable time full of questions, joys, and concerns, and I love supporting families through all of it. I have extra training and expertise in supporting breastfeeding/chest feeding, since so many of parents' early concerns revolve around feeding, and there is not enough good lactation help available to most families. I work with first-time parents and those expecting their second, third, or more babies- everyone's needs are a bit different, but everyone can use extra hands and a listening ear during this time of transition. I would love to chat with you to get to know you and your family!

Service introduction

I work with families in their homes for usually two or three months after the birth of their baby/babies. A typical postpartum shift is 3-5 hours, allowing us plenty of time for conversation and allowing you plenty of time to rest and recover from birth and those sleepless nights. I'm very flexible about the number of hours per day and the number of days per week, because everyone's needs and budgets are different. My rate is $35/hour for weekdays and $40/hour for weekends and holidays.

Packages
Postpartum Doula Support
I offer in-home or in-hospital postpartum doula support at a rate of $35 per hour for weekdays, $40 an hour for weekends and holidays. Most families prefer to schedule things with me a week at a time, since your needs will change from week to week as you recover from birth and your baby goes through developmental changes and growth spurts! You will simply pay me at the end of each week, rather than paying for a certain number of hours upfront, because I know that most people don't know exactly what they need until baby comes, and I don't want to lock you in to hours you don't need.

Lactation Support
I already incorporate breastfeeding/chestfeeding help in the course of working with my postpartum clients, but as a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, I also offer in-home counseling and education that is breast/chestfeeding-specific. If you find yourself needing support that is completely focused on breast/chestfeeding, I can help you overcome challenges, get reassurance about how things are going, make a plan to help you achieve your goals, and connect you with other medical professionals if needed. I charge $50 per visit, generally 1 to 1.5 hours, and this price also includes phone/text follow-ups.

I hired Erica for the birth of both of my baby girls. I feel like the only way I made it through the fourth trimester with my first was because of Erica. Her emotional support meant everything to me and carried me through the tough times with an infant. I hired her again for my second and even though I felt more confident and capable overall, her support and presence still meant everything to me. Even though I felt I had silly questions for her, she treated me with respect and never made me feel guilty or ashamed for any of my feelings or questions. I can’t recommend hiring Erica as your postpartum doula enough! I can’t imagine what my recovery from birth would’ve been like without her.

Erica was an outstanding postpartum doula! She was an incredible asset and resource for our family during the very early newborn days when I was recovering postpartum and we were adjusting to life with our first baby. Having someone whose focus was to care for our baby AND our family was such a blessing. Having a baby in the post-COVID era was something we struggled with - who do we let over to the house, where can we go with such a young baby, it could feel isolating. Having Erica's warm smile to look forward to, encouragement, and the ability to take a shower and eat lunch with both my hands when she was over and helping with the baby, was worth its weight in gold! Erica did everything from coaching me to successfully breastfeed, helping to determine a good pumping schedule when I headed back work, coaching us through nap and sleep challenges, folding piles of laundry, and so much more. Part postpartum doula part new-mom-life coach for this new mama, the hardest part about our experience with Erica was saying goodbye. She had become a part of our family and I STILL miss seeing her everyday.

Before hiring Erica, I was nervous about having a postpartum doula. I had spoken to an agency who was pushy and overbearing. When I found Erica, she was exactly the opposite and listened to what we wanted from our postpartum experience instead of telling us what we needed. Erica was an invaluable resource for my husband and I. She has a wealth of knowledge about postpartum care and newborns. As a first time mom, I had many questions, big and small. Erica was able to answer every question or direct me to resources that could help me answer the questions. She also provided nice conversation but recognized when I needed alone time. We wish we could have Erica around forever! But she is so good at her job that we now feel prepared to move forward on our own. I highly recommend Erica to anyone looking for a postpartum doula and I would hire her again if we have another child.
