My journey into midwifery started with the birth of my first child Oliana who was born by cesarean after planning a homebirth. That birth left me excited to be a mother but also confused about healing and breastfeeding. I had a lot of support in the postpartum including from our local ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) chapter. Community was important in healing and building me up as a mother during my early parenting years and community is what drives me today. In 2009 I attended Birthing From Within training in Austin learning the art of mentoring new parents through the childbearing year. My youngest child Silas was born at home in 2011, I stepped back from birth work during my pregnancy and the years after he was born. I found I needed a lot of quiet contemplation during this time and he needed a lot of time with me. In 2014 I attended toLabor doula and activist training and started a midwifery apprenticeship with CHOICE. In 2018 I became a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) specialized in out of hospital birth. I live in Columbus with my two children. We have a thriving backyard garden and are into composting and sustainable growing practices. I’m an avid reader and researcher. I try to keep up with current research around the pregnancy year and take multiple trainings a year to broaden my knowledge base. I support clients seeking homebirth and monitrice care in the Columbus, Ohio metro area and offer online coaching sessions to people who live outside of my radius of roughly an hour. I have a special interest in families planning a VBAC and HBAC (Vaginal/Home Birth After Cesarean). I am an Army veteran serving 4 years on active duty in Germany and 3 years in the reserves in Columbus. I have an undergraduate degree from Ohio State in Political Science and Women’s Studies (now Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies).

While I don't accept insurance up front I can help get you information to file after your birth.
I hate to be leaving this review because I’m all about supporting small businesses but I think it’s necessary for other new moms to get an idea of what kind of service they are walking into. After much research and speaking with dozens of midwives and health care providers I can confidently say I did not get enough support or reassurance during my labor with Eliza. Check up were fine but the labor experience is much more important in my opinion. My husband and I had hired her 2 month before us giving birth and paid $5,000 so I am going to get straight to the birthing experience. We were counting on her and another woman who Eliza claimed would be there to assist her, but when it was time she claimed this other woman had gotten into a car accident which is unfortunate but not our problem because who is going to care while they are in labor and paid for something that was promised to them, clearly she did not have a strong team or a back up plan in case this other woman couldn’t make it. When Eliza arrived at my home, my husband had already blown up the pool and she brought her equipment to setup, after she was done she sat down on her laptop and didn’t get up but only to check the baby’s heart beat, lay out doggy pads, add water to the pool, the bare minimum. My contractions had started since 8 pm so obviously my husband had not slept and was extremely fatigued from adding pressure to my hips every 2-5 minutes up to 10-11 am. My mother who was also there has arthritis on her wrists and couldn’t give me that same physical support my husband was giving me. Where was Eliza? In the corner on her laptop, saying “you got this” she didn’t get up to support me physically, mentally or emotionally the way she portrays on her social media handles like her videos on her instagram. After my baby was born she insisted to tug and pull on the umbilical cord which we had spoken about before, she tried doing it herself and it hurt so bad so I said I wanted to do it so I could of done it at my pace and breathe through the pain. She claims it was to see how much blood I was loosing because my placenta was acting like a plug. After the placenta came out it was non stop bleeding from there. Come to find out my placenta was still attached to my uterus and she forced it out. She claims it was already detached but according to the doctor who performed surgery on me there was a good amount of membrane left behind which he showed me after they shoved their hands in my uterus to scoop it all out. If my husband did not make the call to get the ambulance I could have died that day from the bleeding. Regardless of me having anemia all my life the doctor said that is not what worsened my condition. I lost about 2,000 cc that day. I experienced a lack of care and support during my labor and I hope no one ever gets to go through that as their first birth. Not to mention I got kicked out of my OBGYN office after I gave them her name and they read the hospitals report, they wanted nothing to do with me because they didn’t want to take responsibility for any serious postpartum issues.
