About me

Hi I’m Demitra. I am Nationally Licensed Massage therapist and have an associates in occupation therapy. Tending to the bodies’ systems has always been something that drew me in, and I’ve been practicing since 2015. While in school for body work, I was also immersed in Birth and Postpartum Doula training and received a Certificate in Childbirth Education. La Matrona is focused on Holistic Birth and Traditional Doula and Midwifery Arts focuses on integrating Indiginous practices and holistic care. The weaving of my passion for the physical body and being of service to the spiritual walk, met in my role in Prenatal, Birth and Postpartum care. My belief and value is that every moment in life is to be honored and acknowledged. Ritual, prayer and ceremony are a major influence in the way I tend to those I love, and the spaces I hold. Since then I have given birth at home to two vibrant beings, and my focus has been on raising them for the last few years. They have been my greatest teachers and encourage me to embody the belief in the family unit being one of the most precious resources we have.

Service introduction

The foundation of Doula work is to support, tend to, observe, and nurture, whatever energy in the room that needs attention. Some examples of how are; birth position support, gentle touch, affirmations, feeding, keeping hydrated, allowing and encouraging the partner to rest and any other details of the household/space that may need tending to. With the support of a birth doula, the birthing family is able to let go and embrace portal they’re entering.

Mother Blessing Way Ceremony
Traditionally an indigenous Navajo honoring done in moments of ‘threshold’ crossing, or ‘rites of passage.’ In addition for women becoming mother’s this type of ceremony would be held for men going to battle, and young girls becoming women. This ritual can take place in the third trimester of pregnancy. It typically is an all women identified space, multi-generational, and weaves in ancestral lineage of the birthing person. As the facilitator I take care of creating the space, structure, and flow of the day. Including invites and communication with attending participants. The intention is to take all logistics off of the birthing person, tap into her desires for this day, and then bring it to life. We sing songs, create pieces for your birth alter, release fears, and collectively hold your deepest prayers for pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. Depending on how many attendees are present, this ritual is 3 hours minimum.
