About me

I am a DONA-trained Postpartum Doula and owner of Sage Support. No experience of my life has been as foundation-rattling as having my first child. My husband and I lived far from family and friends, and - like most - our family had other day-to-day responsibilities that kept them busy. Add in a (short) NICU stay, early feeding challenges, and insufficient paternity leave, and I was a mess. In those early days, in between visits from our mothers and sisters, I constructed a tiny village of “nice ladies” - lactation consultants, speech language pathologists, a weekly breastfeeding group, and a psychologist - to put myself back together and stabilize my daughter’s eating. I believe that our country needs significant policy changes that better support families, birthing people, and infants. In the meantime, postpartum doulas can help fill that gap. I went through DONA postpartum doula and breastfeeding training in January 2021, and I’m working on the final requirements to be fully certified. I will work hard to support your family and refer you to other evidence-based professionals.

Service introduction

My favorite description of postpartum doula work comes from a Chinese phrase - mothering the mother. My goal is to provide the physical and mental space you need to heal your body, take care of your baby, and grow to understand their needs and personality. I want to hear your birth story, be there when your partner has to return to work, and fill your freezer. Doulas are a non-medical resource to not only the birthing parent, but the whole family. In your home, I will provide emotional, practical, and educational support, including: assisting in newborn care by providing another set of hands or giving parents a chance to rest, supporting the family's feeding choices, helping older children adjust and, if needed, keeping them busy, prepping meals and snacks, and organizing baby items and light tidying up. Additionally, if needed, I can provide referrals to medical providers or other experts.
