Hello everyone! My name is Ashanti Wilson Hale of The Balanced Birth worker. I am a state certified birth and postpartum doula serving the Hampton Roads community. I became a doula due to my own pregnancy experience, which led to mistreatment in hospitals, and an eventual awareness to the hardships woman, especially black woman, face giving birth in this country. Outside of doula work, I am a nutritionist assistant for WIC because I believe in the importance of eating healthy and how that can better many aspects of our lives. In my free time, I love to dance, write poetry, write music, spend time with family, and go on nature walks with my fiancé. It would be my honor to serve you and your family!

As a birth doula, I provide childbirth education, helping families understand common medical interventions, their options when giving birth in a hospital/birth center, birth plan creation, as well as what to expect during pregnancy and birth. I also provide comfort measures to assist with pain management during our prenatal meetings and during labor and delivery. As a postpartum doula, I work with families as they transition into their parenthood with a newborn baby. I help with common household tasks, running errands, getting groceries, newborn care, basic breastfeeding advice, and more.
