About Andrea
Hi, I'm Andie. I'm a Licensed Midwife (LM), Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), and board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) serving families in Spokane and Eastern Washington through The Catching House.
I've spent more than 15 years in birth work and attended hundreds of births. I'm also a mom of seven, so I've been on both sides of this experience. I know how much it matters to feel heard, to have your questions answered, and to know the person who'll be there when your baby arrives.
With me, you'll have the same midwife from your first visit through postpartum. Our visits are unhurried, and I'll walk you through your options, the benefits and the risks, so every decision feels like yours. My care includes prenatal visits, birth at home, postpartum visits, and lactation support, all in one place.
The Catching House is named for my grandmother's midwifery clinic in Ethiopia. Her stories are a big part of why I do this work. I'd love to meet you for a free consult and see if we're a good fit.

Placenta Encapsulation
Some families choose to have their placenta encapsulated after birth, and I offer this as an optional service for families in the Spokane area. After your birth, I handle your placenta with care and prepare it into capsules for you to take during the postpartum period. Research on the benefits is still limited, and every family's reasons are their own. I'm always happy to talk through what's known so you can decide what feels right for you.

Lactation Support
As an IBCLC, I offer lactation support for families in Spokane, whether or not I'm your midwife. Visits can happen in your home or at my office, and can include prenatal feeding planning, help with latch and positioning, concerns about supply, pumping and bottle-feeding support, and a full feeding assessment for you and your baby. My goal is to help you feed your baby in a way that works for your family, with calm, practical support and no pressure. For my midwifery clients, lactation support is included in their care.

Andrea & Darby are a dream team! They’re loving, listen attentively to your concerns and preferences, and they are a wealth of knowledge for all your questions. Pre and post natal visits were very helpful and through, not to mention the bonus emotional support you get from their experience and motherly style of care, very different from I got from the OBGYN office. Would highly recommend their services!

Andrea has been a part of two of my pregnancies and home births. We have absolutely loved her and could not recommend her enough! She has always been very professional but also super personable. Andrea is one of the most genuine people I’ve met! I loved that she always explained the risks and benefits of all treatment options and encouraged us to always make the best decision for us with no pressure. During birth, Andrea was calm and collected through it all. Encouraging when I needed it, and in the background when I needed space. She is diligent and passionate about physiological birth! Andrea is not only a great midwife but such an amazing and compassionate person!

Our own experience with Andrea was a game-changer! She listened carefully and affirmed my husband, myself, and our two-week old who was having significant latching troubles. She is gentle and confident around newborns; even after having five babies I found her demeanor inspiring. Most importantly, her advice worked! We’re so grateful for her input and encouragement. Highly recommend Andrea as a lactation consultant and a knowledgeable practitioner.

Frequently asked questions
Is home birth safe?
For healthy, low-risk pregnancies, planned home birth with a licensed midwife is a safe option for many families. Throughout your pregnancy, I screen for anything that might change that and talk openly with you if it does. I'm trained in neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and bring emergency equipment and medications to every birth. My goal is for you to have the full picture, so the choice feels right to you.
What’s included in care?
My care covers your whole journey: unhurried prenatal visits, your birth at home with a trained birth assistant, postpartum visits for you and your baby, and lactation support from me as an IBCLC. A birth kit with supplies, including a birth pool, is included too. You'll have the same midwife from start to finish.
How much does midwifery care cost?
Full midwifery care is $7,000, covering prenatal, birth, postpartum, and lactation support. Payment plans are available: a $500 deposit to reserve your spot, then payments spread out until you're paid in full by 36 weeks. HSA and FSA funds are accepted.
Do you bill insurance?
I don't bill insurance directly, but I provide superbills you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so it's worth calling your insurer to ask about out-of-network midwifery care.
When should I contact you?
The earlier the better. Ideally reach out in your first trimester, since my calendar fills months in advance. If you're further along and want to make a change, reach out anyway. If I can help, I will.
Do you offer water birth?
Yes. A birth pool and liner are included in your birth kit. Many families love laboring in the water, and some choose to give birth there too. We'll talk about your preferences as part of your birth planning.
Do you offer lactation support if I’m not your midwifery client?
Yes! As an IBCLC, I offer lactation visits in your home or at my office for families throughout Spokane, including prenatal feeding plans, latch and supply support, and help with pumping or bottles, returning to work, transition home from the NICU, feeding twins and multiples and more.
What areas do you serve?
I attend home births in Spokane and Eastern Washington, generally within about an hour of Spokane, including Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Cheney, and Deer Park. I also am licensed in Idaho and will see clients in Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, and Hayden. Not sure if you're in range? Just ask.
How much does Andrea charge?
Andrea's Lactation Support package is $180 USD, flat rate. Andrea lists 3 packages in all.
