According to Bornbir's latest survey in April, 2024, Medi-Cal pays doulas at least $3,263.21 for attending a birth and providing a full set of prenatal and postpartum visits. This rate is designed to cover one initial visit, up to eight additional visits that may be provided in any combination of prenatal and postpartum visits, support during labor and delivery, and up to two extended three-hour postpartum visits after the end of a pregnancy. If more postpartum visits are needed, an additional recommendation from a healthcare provider is required.
For doulas providing these services, it's important to note that they must be contracted with Managed Care Plans (MCPs) to receive reimbursement, and payments are made after services are rendered.
